Fresh Turf for Morpeth Gardens
Yes, we deliver fresh turf to Morpeth and nearby villages such as Pegswood and Mitford. Morpeth is 14 miles north of Newcastle, a straight run up the A1 from our yard. Buy turf rolls at £4.75 each; the rye and fescue grass is grown in the county and cut when you order.
Four steps to a new lawn in Morpeth
1. Check how the garden drains
Morpeth grew up in a loop of the River Wansbeck. In September 2008 the river flooded around 1,000 properties, and a £27 million flood defence scheme was finished in 2017. If your garden is low-lying or close to the river, look at it after heavy rain. Standing water needs sorting before you lay; our lawn drainage guide has some options.
2. Measure the area
Work out the square metres. Each roll covers about 1m², and we suggest 5–10% extra for offcuts. A 6m by 5m lawn is 30m², so 30 rolls, or 32 with 5% extra. The how much turf guide has a calculator for trickier shapes.
3. Pick delivery or collection
Delivery to Morpeth runs Monday to Friday, with the exact charge at checkout and a 20-roll minimum that may depend on location. Get your order in by 2pm the day before (for a Monday, by 2pm on Sunday) and it's available from the next working day. Collection from our yard is free, from one roll upwards; see click and collect.
4. Lay it the day it arrives
Fresh turf is best laid straight away. Water it in thoroughly and keep it moist for the following couple of weeks.
Drop-off in town and in the villages
Turf is put down at the nearest safe, accessible point, usually the drive or the kerb, and isn't carried through to back gardens. Use the order notes to flag anything that might get in the way: a shared drive, parked cars, a narrow lane or low cables. Spring is the busy season, so get your order in early. New estates at St George's
The former St George's Hospital site has been redeveloped for housing, with several hundred homes built across a number of phases by different housebuilders. If you've just moved into one, the garden may be hard-packed subsoil with bits of brick and concrete mixed in. Break it up, rake out the stones and add topsoil where needed before you lay.
Raising low ground with topsoil
Low spots, hollows and thin soil can be built up with screened topsoil, which we bring in bulk bags (a tonne each) or as a loose load. It's delivery only and normally arrives separately from your turf. Please order it as far in advance as you can.
Questions
Our garden is near the Wansbeck and gets soggy. Can we still have a lawn?
Turf won't root well in waterlogged ground. Improve the drainage first, raise the level with topsoil if needed, and lay when the soil is moist but not sodden.
Do you deliver to Pegswood and Mitford?
Yes. Villages around Morpeth get the same Monday to Friday service. The 20-roll minimum and the price can vary by address, and you'll see both at checkout.
How soon can the children play on the new lawn?
New turf generally takes two to four weeks to root, weather depending. Until then, keep play to a minimum, and give it a light first cut before heavy use.
