Turf Rolls for Hexham and the Tyne Valley

Yes, we deliver fresh turf to Hexham and nearby Tyne Valley towns and villages, including Corbridge, Acomb, Prudhoe and Haydon Bridge. The turf, a hard-wearing mix of rye and fescue, is grown in Northumberland, cut to order and costs £4.75 a roll. For a larger garden, add all the rolls you need and check out as normal.

The run out west

Hexham sits on the south bank of the Tyne, about 25 miles west of Newcastle along the A69. Corbridge is 4 miles east of it, Acomb just to the north, Haydon Bridge to the west and Allendale to the south. Beyond the towns, Tynedale is big, open country: it was the largest district created in England in 1974, and it takes in part of Hadrian's Wall and the national park.

Because of that distance, the 20-roll delivery minimum and the charge can both depend on where you are. Checkout shows your figure before you pay. We deliver Monday to Friday; order by 2pm (for a Monday, by 2pm on Sunday) and the next working day is the earliest delivery available. For spring jobs, order as far ahead as you can. Read about our delivery for the full details. If you're driving into Newcastle anyway, you can collect from our yard, and collection is free.

Lanes, tracks and farm gates

Country addresses bring their own access questions. The driver leaves the turf at the nearest safe point a vehicle can reach, which might be the end of a track, a farmyard or the top of a gravel drive. Rolls can't be carried across fields or lawns. When you order, tell us about:

  • narrow lanes, low branches or overhead cables
  • gates, cattle grids or soft verges
  • where there's room to turn
  • the best spot to leave the rolls

Stone walls and larger lawns

Many older houses in Hexham and the valley villages are stone-built, often with stone garden walls, and country gardens can be large. A big lawn needs a lot of rolls, so measure carefully. Each roll covers about 1m², so count one roll per m². Add 5–10% for offcuts. A 15m by 10m lawn is 150m²: 150 rolls, or 158 with 5% extra. Our turf calculator guide handles odd shapes. A straight wall or path makes a good line to start laying from.

Laying in winter and on higher ground

Unless the ground is frozen, turf keeps being cut through most of the winter, so spring isn't the only option. Higher up the valley, frost tends to linger, so check the soil isn't frozen or waterlogged on the day you lay. Our guide on the best time to lay turf goes through the seasons.

Topsoil across the valley

We also deliver screened topsoil to Hexham, Prudhoe, Corbridge and the villages around, as 1-tonne bulk bags or tipped loose. There's no collection option for topsoil, and it normally comes on a separate run from the turf. Please order it as far in advance as you can.

Questions

Is the minimum order higher for Hexham?

The standard minimum is 20 rolls, but it can depend on location, so rural addresses may differ. Checkout shows the minimum and price for your address before you pay.

Can you leave the turf at the end of our farm track?

Yes, if that's the nearest safe point a vehicle can reach. Add a note to your order describing the track and where you'd like the rolls left.

We need well over 100 rolls. Who do we speak to?

You can order them online like any other order. Add all the rolls you need to your basket and check out as normal.

Can we pick the turf up on a trip into Newcastle?

Yes. Collection is free for any quantity from one roll. Our yard handles collections on weekdays, and from April to September it also opens 9am to 12pm on Saturdays. Get your order in by 2pm the day before (by 2pm on Sunday for a Monday).
