Collect or deliver?
Cramlington is 6 miles north of Newcastle, between the A1, the A19 and the A189. Our yard is on Brunswick Industrial Estate, near where the A1 and A19 meet, so the town is close to us either way.

Sixty years of estates
Cramlington was declared a new town in 1964, and unusually it was built by private housebuilders rather than a government development corporation. Much of the town is estate housing, in neighbourhoods such as Northburn, Eastfield, Westwood, Parkside and Beacon Hill. The newest homes are in the south-west, around Arcot, on estates including Arcot Manor, The Fairways, Beaconsfield Park, West Meadows and Hartford Edge.
Those two ages of housing need different preparation:
- Older estates: replacing a worn lawn means lifting the old turf, loosening the soil underneath, then levelling and firming.
- New builds: expect compacted ground and leftover debris under a thin topsoil layer. Break it up, rake out stones and add soil where it's thin.

Topsoil for new-build plots
Thin or uneven ground can be topped up with screened topsoil, sent out in 1-tonne bulk bags or tipped loose. Unlike turf, topsoil can't be collected from our yard, and it normally comes on its own delivery. Please order it as far in advance as you can.
Questions
Can I collect turf in my car?
You can, as long as your car can take the weight. Fresh turf is heavy, so check your vehicle's load limit and lay a sheet in the boot.
We've just moved into a new build. When can we turf?
As soon as the ground is prepared. Turf is cut through most of the winter unless the ground is frozen, so there's no need to wait for spring.
Is Saturday collection available all year?
No. Saturday collection runs from April to September, 9am to 12pm. The rest of the year, collection is Monday to Friday only.
