How many rolls?

Patch a lawn in five steps

  1. Cut out the damaged area into a neat square or rectangle with a half-moon edger or spade.
  2. Loosen the soil underneath and add a little topsoil so the new turf sits level with the old lawn.
  3. Lay the new turf the day you collect it, pushing the edges tight against the existing grass.
  4. Firm it down with the back of a rake or by walking on a plank.
  5. Water it well and keep it moist for the first couple of weeks.

How much to buy

Each roll covers about 1m² and measures about 2.4m × 0.4m, so you need about one roll per m². Measure the patch, add 5–10% for offcuts (we add 5% unless you choose otherwise) and round up to whole rolls. For a small patch, that's usually one spare roll.

  • £4.75: a roll, about 1m²
  • From 1 roll: free collection from our yard
  • From £29: delivery, 20 rolls or more
  • 2pm: order by, Mon to Fri, for the next working day

A new patch can look a slightly different shade from an older lawn for a few weeks. It blends in as it settles and is mown.

Patch questions

Can I buy just one roll?

Yes. You can collect from just one roll, and collection is free. Delivery starts at 20 rolls.

Will the new turf match my lawn?

It's a hard-wearing rye and fescue mix, which suits most garden lawns. Expect a slight colour difference at first that fades as it settles.

Should I seed or turf a patch?

Turf gives you a finished patch straight away and can be walked on gently within a few weeks. Seed is cheaper but takes longer and needs protecting from birds.
