Frequently Asked Questions

How soon should I water turf after laying?
Water ASAP to stop the rolls drying out. Make sure the water penetrates through the turf into the soil beneath.
How often should I water new turf?
  • Weeks 0–2: Daily - soak it (skip only if there’s steady rain and it gets fully soaked).
  • Weeks 3–4: Every other day.
  • After 4 weeks: Deep soak weekly in dry weather.
Tip: Lift a corner—soil should feel moist, not bone dry.
When can I mow my new turf?
When the grass reaches 5–7 cm and the turf resists a gentle lift (usually 2–3 weeks). First cut high and remove no more than one-third of the blade length.
What mowing height should I use after the first cut?
Start high for the first 2–3 cuts, then lower gradually over several mows to your preferred height. Always use a sharp blade.
When should I first feed the lawn?
Apply a balanced slow-release feed at 6–8 weeks, then every 8–10 weeks during the growing season (Mar–Oct). Avoid winter feeding.
What’s the best time of year to lay turf in the North East?
Turf can be laid most of the year, avoiding frozen or waterlogged ground and extreme heat. Best windows are typically Feb/March to late November.

Butt joints tightly (don’t stretch rolls), press down with a board, and pay extra attention when watering—edges dry first. Lightly brush fine soil into any hairline gaps.
